Why would I want my Local Business on Facebook

Many local businesses have asked me “Why would I want my local business on Facebook?”

It’s time you understand why you need to use Facebook as part of your marketing plan. Facebook is obviously popular but what is the benefit for your business?

Well, consider this!

On March 16, 2010 Julianne Pepitone, a CNN staff reporter wrote that Facebook topped Google to become the most visited U.S. Web site.

Also, Facebook received over 7% of all U.S. Web visitors beating out Google! Even more important is the fact that Facebook’s visitor growth rate over the past year was 185% compared to Google’s 9%! (NOTE: This is visitors, not searches. Google is still #1 for searches!)

So what does this mean?

People want information from people they trust and Facebook has become the most visited and trusted site on the Web!

I’m sure you have noticed that major companies have adopted Facebook as an advertising platform to develop a relationship with their customers and prospects. Why? IT WORKS!

Facebook is also courting local business owners to advertise through their paid-advertising network that reaches over 500 million connected people that can be target both geographically and demographically!

Here are some Facebook facts and figures that might help you appreciate why you should make Facebook part of your marketing activities:

  • More than 500 million active users
  • 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day
  • Average user has 130 friends
  • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook
  • Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events
  • Average user creates 90 pieces of content each month
  • Every month, more than 70% of Facebook users engage with Platform applications
  • More than 550,000 active applications currently on Facebook Platform
  • More than one million websites have integrated with Facebook Platform
  • More than 150 million people engage with Facebook on external websites every month
  • Two-thirds of comScore’s U.S. Top 100 websites and half of comScore’s Global Top 100 websites have integrated with Facebook
  • There are more than 150 million active users currently accessing Facebook through their mobile devices.
  • People that use Facebook on their mobile devices are twice as active on Facebook as non-mobile users.
  • There are more than 200 mobile operators in 60 countries working to deploy and promote Facebook mobile products

Now the question is, are you going to use Facebook as part of your local business marketing plan before your competition does?

Stay tuned!
